A creative perspective from Bubble gum test shoots.

Jonathan Robert Willis recently set up a  test shoot in his Cincinnati studio. The goal was to capture emotion and expression with half the face covered by  people blowing big bubbles from bubble gum. Willis had four subjects blow bubbles while he captured their expressions. The session was a creative exercise, but this type of practice is core for the craft.  The project creates a dilemma with half the face being covered. It forces the photographer to become creative and capture unique emotions. Check out more images from this session and see the lighting diagram at  The self assignment was motiviated by the new book Accidental Creative by Todd Henry.
