M Doucette Production was recently hired by ESPN to produce a top-secret photo shoot for this year’s Body Issue with the Boston Celtic’s Isaiah Thomas. To complete the job, they worked with photographer Walter Iooss Jr to capture the basketball star.

M Doucette Production has worked with ESPN several times before, creating portraits with the Boston Bruins and U.S. Olympian Aly Raisman, for example. This year, they ditched the rink and mats and headed for the court for some new and original point guard-portraits.

Behind the scenes

MDP handled on-set management, crew and production logistics. Iooss Jr. only a few hours with the subject, so they picked a location that offered the space and lighting necessary for multiple, diverse shots. Working with location scout Karen Stark, MDP set up three scenes at the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club. According to reps at MDP, It didn’t take long for this unassuming field house to transform into a three-bay studio perfect for shooting.

The final images can be seen in the gallery above, and in ESPN‘s latest Body Issue.
