Self Promo Inspiration: Tadd Myers’ New Zealand Sheep Farm Project
May 10, 2018
Photographer Tadd Myers has released a new body of photographs captured during a recent trip to New Zealand. His New Zealand Sheep Farm promotional piece showcases a day in the life of hardworking farmers, their sheep and the local herding dogs in a beautifully designed 36-page folio. The front cover features a hand-stitched wool fabric tag that is actually made from the same sheep featured in the piece.
“Our New Zealand Sheep Farm booklet began in May, 2017, as a commissioned shoot by SH8 Merino to photograph five family-owned sheep farms located on New Zealand’s South Island,” Myers says. SH8 Merino is a co-op of farms located along State Highway 8 (SH8) in the central area of the South Island.
“In order to document the daily life on these farms, we spent one full day shooting at each farm,” Myers explains. “I was so enamored with the country, the hardworking farmers we visited and ultimately the images we captured that I decided to showcase them in a self-promotional piece,” Myers says he is inspired by the New Zealand landscape and the legacy of sheep farming. “Over the decades, these farmers have worked hard to preserve their way of life in order to pass it on to the next generation. I’m excited to help share their story of hard work, tradition and pride which they demonstrate every day,” Myers says.
The 36-page piece was printed in Dallas, Texas in March, 2018, and will be mailed to more than 2,500 contacts around the world. It also earned a distinction in the 2018 PDN Photo Annual in the advertising/corporate work category.
